Argument Essay on expert topic, final essay

Argument Essay on Expert Topic
Each essay must be the individual’s effort.

Digital culture has been and continues to be enormously influential across society. For your essay, you will focus on the digital culture topic for which you have been becoming an expert.

You will be answering one of the questions you generate in your brainstorming. Keep your question focused. You do not want to argue for or against digital privacy, for example. That topic is much too large.

Remember that you are making an argument. You are not describing an issue. You are trying to convince your audience that what you have to say is worth listening to. Keep in mind that arguments are OPINIONS.

Your audience is your peers: local college students. Think about how your topic will relate to them specifically. What questions might they find interesting? What evidence would be convincing? What anecdotes, stories, etc. would be compelling?

You must use 4-6 sources and you must have at least 7 citations (not quotes!). Your essay should be at least 1500 words.

Getting started:
1. List on the back at least ten questions that your technology topic raises. You may want to do this with others in your group.

2. Select three of the questions from above and write an answer to them that could be a thesis statement.

3. Make a mind map for all Three of the theses you generate (make sure you do this step. I will be looking for it in the folder).

4. Spend the remainder of class doing research on the questions that interest you. Use the Research Map on the blog. By the end of class, you should have visited at least three websites on your topic. Make sure to make an MLA listing of each.
